21 days of Daniel

So recently my wife and I decided to get back into shape.  We're really out there like that.  It didn't take us long to recognize that, just like the many other times we've attempted to get back into shape, we would quickly fail if we didn't enlist some help.  Imagine our excitement when we discovered that a couple with whom we're very close were also talking about doing the same thing!  We regularly hang out together, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to construct a joint venture into healthy eating and exercise.

Despite having a support group, I am certain that it's not going to be easy (Could there be a more obvious observation?).  Ultimately, it boils down to this: I'm going to be 33 next month, and my developing gut has risen like a leavened loaf of white bread.  I am supposed to be in the prime of my life, but am, in fact, in the worst shape ever.  I get out of breath doing 5 minutes of easy exercise, I regularly pull muscles in my back because I don't strengthen them, my shirts are on the verge of pulling so tightly against my belly so that the gap between the buttons spreads open.  I'm afraid I'll put an eye out at church with a ricocheting button!  Something has to be done.

For the next 19 days (we started a 21 day program two days ago) we will be eating according to the Daniel Fast program (basically no leavened bread, no meat, no added sugars, and no dairy, drinking only water) and exercising.  Once we finish up that cleansing period, the plan is go move into doing some P90X/Insanity workouts for 90 days.

I started this blog because I wanted to be able to write about how I'm doing, what I'm eating, and the exercise I'm doing.  I think it'll be easier to keep up with the program that way, especially if people are able to read what I'm up to.
